The final spring training game was today – the next one counts. We spent the day painting the trim – and all I could think was that all our neighbor’s think we’re moving. Why else would someone paint the trim?

Red Sox Ticket Consideration
January 24, 2007I’ve had the problem in the past of having an extra ticket or 2 to a Red Sox game, and it’s difficult to know whom to ask. It always comes back around to “Why didn’t you ask me?” So I decided to quantify the process of who I consider for tickets. The result is this google spreadsheet, which is easy to update from anywhere I can get online, and has the additional benefit of me being able to publish via that link and show people exactly why I didn’t ask them if they wanted to go. You get a ton of points for giving me free tickets, and loose points for leaving early.

DMB gives a nod to the Fenway Fans
July 9, 2006Was at the Dave Matthews Band concert at fenway last night – and we were talking pre-show about how great it would be if they played Dirty Water or Tessie or Sweet Caroline – and in true fenway fashion they broke out with Sweet Caroline as song #7 of the set. Sweet Caroline is typcially played at Fenway in the middle of the 8th inning. Most ball parks play “Take me Out to the Ballgame” at the 7th inning stretch (middle of the 7th inning.)
A couple times during the show I was thinking of trying to start some of the chants you typically hear at fenway, and almost as if on queue, they started without me. “Let’s Go Red Sox” was strong – and the ever present “Yankees Suck” errupted shortly after.
Silly part of the night – on the walk down boylton back to the car (make that “Cah”) in the crowd of happy people; someone going the other way asked, “Did the Red Sox Win?”

Suzy and her Mom went to the Tuesday Red Sox vs. A’s game. It ended in a walk off Red Sox home run which sent the crowd into a frenzy. During the game she bought me a raffle ticket to maybe win the world series rings they are raffling. Non-MASS people have to buy the tickets in person.

At the Red Sox opening day game this year we were hanging out on Yawkee way and ran into Remmy. He was getting his picture taken with lots of people, and when Suzy got next to him I yelled, “Remy! Hug my wife, please!” So he did, and I think we got a slightly better smile from him. He was very nice to everyone.

December 19, 2004

We’ve bought a lot of tickets in the past couple months… all for events that are happening next year. We didn’t plan this far ahead to get good seats, we did it so we could pay face value for the tickets and not pay a scalper or ticket agency a fee. The most obvious are the Red Sox tickets – which sold out in a couple days, but you can still get a bleacher seat to the Yankee home opener for $518, a ticket that cost $12 if you could figure out a way to be the first person to buy it. We’re driving to Baltimore to see the Red Sox play there, and I’m bringing the kids to that game becuase the tickets only cost $15. The original sellers of the ticket have no incentive to stop this sort of thing, becuase they get their money no matter what happens.
We got tickets for about 7 Red Sox games, a Dave Brubeck concert, and the last Seth Yacavone Band show. I don’t think it would have been hard to get the Seth Tickets, becuase I think the majority of the people buying them, if not everyone, is planning on attending the concert: as opposed to making a profit off someone else who didn’t get tickets soon enough.

Went online and scored tickets to 6 games. There were various tricks to getting through the online system. I didn’t lean the “really good tricks” until later in the day after I got okay seats to the games I wanted by brute force (having 3 computers trying to get into the website by normal means). I didn’t even try for the opening day yankees tickets… but if I had known the good tricks I would have. Still – happy to have some tickets coming!

Suzy and I took an hour off from work to goto Manchester City Hall Plaza to get an in person look at the World Series Trophy. There was a line to get an up close picture with the trophy, but it was at least 2 hrs long, so we snuck around back and took a few pictures without us in them. It was fun being around all the Red Sox fans yet again.

Forums: I spend a bunch of time reading and posting to several forums. Here’s the list:
TimeForTuckerman A group of people who ski Tuckerman Ravine. I’m crazy active on this one, reading almost every post, and currently hold the “High Poster” position. I’ve met a few dozen people on this board and regularaly ski with them in the ski season, and see them a lot during the spring skiing season.
Merrimack, NH Forum A forum focused on the town I live in. This forum is often an example of how NOT to post to a forum. I’m overwhelemd by the situation where people post a longwinded, non spell checked, opinion filled rant with questions in it like, “Who’s job is this?” Got me thinking of tracking how many questiosn go unanswered, mostly becuase there is no answer.
NoHomers Club A simpsons forum I found recently. Wicked high volume – I don’t read more than 1% of the posts – but it’s fun to check from time to time.
These both revolve around the ski area Sugarbush. The RSN one is very old (like 4 yrs, old in internet time that is) and has weak forum functionality, recently there is talk of it going away. The new one is an attempt at getting things into a more modern format, and also in anticipation of the RSN forum disappearing.
SonsOfSamHorn forum: This one of the best red sox forums, but I don’t post here, I’m no wheres near as knowldgeable on the sox as these guys.
Section39.Com This is the board for the people who sit in the bleachers at yankee stadium. I’m a die hard redsox fan, but these guys are masters in the art of flagrant and rude insults. It’s been fun rubbing in the Red Sox world series win.
There’s a few more I have participated in, but these are the big ones.
